Aalborg Vestby Mobility

Aalborg Vestby is a district ready to lead the way for new solutions on how the green transition can go hand in hand with better livability in cities. In the coming years, Aalborg Vestby is expected to become a test laboratory for future mobility solutions and partnerships. With new solutions, the district will invite far more sustainable mobility behaviour in order to create space for increased quality of life, more attractive street spaces, and greater solutions for the climate.

In order to achieve these goals, we’ve created a catalog of ideas in collaboration with Aalborg Municipality, NIRAS focusing on the strategic planning of Aalborg Vestby. The catalog contains 10 concrete project ideas that can help inspire the efforts of creating a green and sustainable district.

Green streets

Through trials with selected green street(s) in Aalborg Vestby, this project idea demonstrates how a street can be secured against flooding in heavier downpours as a result of climate change. Green areas stops the rainwater from overflowing the sewers and can be used for social activities when it’s dry.

A DISTRICT FOR KIDS

With a focus on making a safe environment and great connections from a children’s perspective, this project idea includes safe traffic and possibilities of playing on the streets as a main purpose. By involving kids in the planning and design of the street space, the project focuses on them and what they want included in a city district.

A sustainable district

This project is about influencing and supporting the transport habits of the district’s citizens and visitors in a greener and healthier direction. Shaping the streets to prioritize greener mobility forms such as walking, cycling and scooters, we’re focusing on minimizing cars in the street. The project involves mini hubs strategically located in the district at key destinations and how the various destinations can promote green mobility and make it more visuable for the citizens and visitors.
