Torp Bruk

At Torp Bruk, we will create a new and unique urban district linking Sarpsborg and Fredrikstad as a natural hub. The site will be transformed into a new neighbourhood with cultural offerings and approximately 800-1,000 homes and associated welfare services, services and businesses.

Torp Bruk has a fantastic history and natural qualities that form a good starting point for creating a unique place and living environment along the Glomma. Leveraging its natural beauty, historical significance, and central positioning, our proposal transforms Torp into an urban village at the heart of this vibrant small city, no longer just a middle ground but a central hub.

Uniting the districts

Torp’s strategic location between Sarpsborg and Fredrikstad, along the Glomma River, connects both cities, fostering a sense of unity. As part of a broader trail network, Torp links to Vetatoppen, Østsidenmarka, and Kjølbergskogen, enhancing outdoor recreation opportunities along the Glomma Trail and in the nearby forests.

A VIBRANT HARBOUR

Life around the boats, with workshops, boathouses, water sports and other water activities will be an important and visible part of the new development of Torp Bruk. At the intersections where new paths meet the lower part of the Glommastia, urban spaces of a more public nature are created, with activities directly connected to the river bank. Here, the river edge is retracted and small coves and water pockets are created.

ANCHORING THE HISTORY

Using the history of the site, the existing buildings and the landscape as identity carriers and anchors of place, we create an urban village based on future mobility forms and a car-free urban environment.

The area’s great urban heart is established around the Paper Museum, where three squares meet. Here, a ferry harbour is created for the city ferries, and several of the existing buildings are preserved and upgraded. This will help provide a distinctive identity with an industrial character based on the area’s history.
