The Parliament in a New Framework

Our proposal provides a vivid glimpse into the heart of the people's government, seamlessly integrating historic buildings with new additions to create a well-functioning workplace and an inspiring visitor experience. With all the basic elements already in place, our holistic approach is strongly based on the existing qualities and cultural heritage. This enables a transformation that preserves and develops the site's unique character and core historical narrative. From the plaza through the new entrance to the Constitutional Chamber; from the Lobby to the People's Roof Terrace; past the Committee Rooms and through the former Art Chamber Building, our proposal aims to offer everyone a cohesive experience of the engine room of democracy.

The democratic square

The square of the Danish Parliament has always been the centre of practicality and activity. Historically, it has connected the palace to the harbour and the surrounding city. This public, active, and vibrant everyday space clearly represents the open and equal Danish democracy, where politicians, civil servants, citizens, visitors, employees and passers-by meet each other at eye level.

One Parliament

Our ambition is to make the organisation and architectural design a natural extension of the existing framework of the Danish Parliament. The Parliament square is the nerve centre of our proposal and around it, the parliament is tied together.

An inviting building

In our proposal, The Art Chamber Building and the corridor buildings ’open up’ functionally and experientially towards the square, contributing to a vibrant and attractive parliament plaza that naturally, both in terms of functionality and building preservation, incorporates the arrival of both the new visitor area and the new framework for the Danish Parliament.

The Commitee Rooms

The committee rooms are simply designed rooms providing a light and calm setting for parliamentary work. The flexible meeting set-up is placed in the centre of the room, and along the sides of the room is a defined zone for the audience with integrated seating and direct access from the visitor flow. Adjacent to each of the rooms are informal, sheltered seating zones for both waiting committee members and guests.
