Sejlbryggen

In collaboration with Cobe, Dorte Mandrup, Tegnestuen Vandkunsten, and Sweco, JAJA is set to design a mixed-use urban waterfront at Enghave Brygge Syd, which features up to 100,000 sqm of housing and commercial spaces. Developed by AP Pension, the aim is to incorporate up to 1,000 housing units, varying from large to small, with more than 25% dedicated to social housing. Woven together with bridges, canals, and green spaces, and located near the soon-to-open metro station, this project is set to become a vibrant new addition to the Copenhagen South Harbor, offering an urban environment with accessible housing for everyone.

The project has a strong focus on CO2 emissions, and we will integrate bio-based materials and wooden structures wherever possible. It also strives to align with the great Reduction Roadmap, which translates the principles of the Paris Agreement and the Planetary Boundary for Climate Change into CO2 reduction targets for new Danish housing projects.

Sejlbryggen

Our plot 'Sejlbryggen' will become a new vibrant waterfront district, combining residential and commercial spaces in a unique setting by the harbor. Our design draws on the classic Copenhagen karré typology, reinterpreted and carefully adapted to the scale, character, and contemporary needs. The architectural concept is structured as a horizontally articulated building volume – composed of base, body, and roof – where the overall scale is broken down through a series of shifts in height and plan. With the H.C. Ørsted power plant as a backdrop, the facades take inspiration from the historic building’s distinctive red tones – a nod to the site’s industrial past.

ANCHORING THE HISTORY

Using the history of the site, the existing buildings and the landscape as identity carriers and anchors of place, we create an urban village based on future mobility forms and a car-free urban environment.

The area’s great urban heart is established around the Paper Museum, where three squares meet. Here, a ferry harbour is created for the city ferries, and several of the existing buildings are preserved and upgraded. This will help provide a distinctive identity with an industrial character based on the area’s history.
